SpotLight Thursday : Blogger Triena Deniese of Circa88

Hey BoldQueens,

Our most valuable possessions are those which can be shared without lessening-those which, when shared, multiply. This is why whatever we possess becomes of double value when we have the opportunity of sharing it with others.

Triena Deniese of in her interview has persuaded us to go grab the world by the lapels. To not stop thinking of life as an adventure. To live bravely, excitingly, imaginatively; unless you can choose a challenge instead of competence.

What we enjoyed most about her blog is how she blends everyday life, style, and beauty. Her style is easily ideal for the everyday woman, its cute ,edgy but very comfortable showing us that you can still look pretty darn good on a budget ” it’s not who you wear but how you wear it” ..

Check below to see how our interview with Triena unfolds ,as she takes us on a style destination to New York.

Q: Tell me a little about yourself.
A: I’m Triena Deniese, a plus size and lifestyle blogger. I’m a southern girl from Alabama who recently relocated to NYC. When I’m not blogging on, I spend most of my time strategizing brands, spending time with family, traveling and diving into life headfirst. I’ve learned so much since the launch of C88, especially about being a dream chaser and a millennial. I hope that my spirit will influence others to go after their dreams and to live a life without limits.

Q: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?

A: “This above all, to thine own self be true.” It’s a quote from Shakespeare that I tend to live by every single day. Why? Because I owe it to myself. We live in a world where everything is smoke and mirrors, and sometimes that taints us. It’s always best to be 100 percent real with who we are so that we can be the light the world needs, and that’s truth.

Q: What does fashion mean to you and what inspires you to blog?

A: You know what’s funny? I’ve never been “obsessed” with fashion. Honestly, it can get so technical with all of these crazy rules, textures, textiles, blah, blah, blah. Instead, I’ve always enjoyed looking and feeling my best. That’s where fashion came into play for me. Each day I would wake up and think, “hmm what mood am I in?” and I would dress myself based on that. Eventually my style developed and I strayed away from typical fashion rules and created my style based on what made me feel good. That’s exactly what inspired me to blog. I wanted to show women, especially curvy women that it’s okay to listen to our bodies and do what feels good to us, even if it defies typical fashion rules!

Q: How did you get into fashion?

A: I got into fashion by default; I always grew up in a fashionable space. As a child I was bigger than most little girls, and I had to get my clothes handmade because typical department stores didn’t sell my size, and if they did, the clothes were hideous or boring. So with the help of my childhood seamstress, and my love for color and patterns, I learned much about fashion and personal style at an early age. Before I knew it, I was adding frou-frou and a bow to almost everything in my closet!

Q: Where do you see your blog a year from now?

A: Honestly, I see Circa88 making major moves! I am claiming magazine features, panel discussions and more hosting opportunities in Circa88’s future. I even see Circa88 starting something of it’s own in the fashion industry someday… I’m not limiting this baby of mine!

Q: How would you describe your signature style?

A: My signature style is definitely feminine chic. I love a good skater skirt, ruffles, and bold patterns.

Q:  What one outfit on you blog represents your individual style?

A: I’m always known for having a tulle skirt somewhere in my closet, so I think Circa88’s 2nd Birthday look represents my style perfectly. That blush skirt, and the clean white Peter Pan collar with the necktie … man I’m still in love!

Q:  How do you go about updating an outfit or look?

A: I typically update my looks by adding trendy pieces. I usually shop clean, classic looks and add trends later. It helps me with maintaining a fashionable closet year ‘round.

Q:  What is your favorite feature to accentuate?

A: These hips of mine are my favorite by far! It’s so easy to add extra “va va voom” to an outfit when I focus on my hips. By the way, that’s a great point. It’s necessary to always focus on the features you love the most because it shows best in your overall look.

Q: What are your favorite places to shop?

A: There are a few places I cannot live without, they are definitely Target, Asos, and Rebdolls. Finding something signature amongst those 3 retailers is always easy.

Q: Do you have any Fashion Challenges?

A: I think we all have fashion challenges. A lot of times, I find a challenge in sizing, because my top is significantly smaller than my bottom. So when things like that happen, it’s best that you know a seamstress who can tailor you to perfection.

Q: Do you find that you follow fashion trends, or do you play by your own rules?

A: I think I am a mix of both. Of course I honor trends, but it’s with my own personal twist. My rule is, as long as the trend aligns with who I am I will play with it. It’s best to know your style and know what you feel comfortable in. If you don’t you will look crazy and awkward in any trend!

Q:  Is there a fall trend that you’re dying to incorporate into your wardrobe?

A: Suede! I always run away from suede because of its stiffness. Stiff clothes don’t work well on my curvy body. Recently I’ve noticed a lot of stretchy suede materials and faux suede looks that I may have to check out next fall.

Q:  Name 3 Bloggers whose style you just live for.

A: I have so many bloggers who style I adore, but if I had to name 3 it would be Tanesha Awasthi (formally Girl With Curves), Gabi Fresh, and Rochelle Johnson of BeautiCurve.

Q:  As you know, my blog is geared towards “Life” and “Style”, so tell me in what ways you combine the two.

A: I think I combine the two by simply “styling life.” Circa88 is all about making life beautiful in every aspect: fashion, every day life, spirituality, and beauty. Ultimately my goal is to master happiness, recognizing the things that make all of us truly happy and at peace. When I say styling life, I mean just as we style our wardrobe each day, it’s up to us to style life, accentuating the things we love about ourselves to evolve into better people.
